If you are covering GSK's latest financial results, please find below a comment from Sheena Berry, healthcare analyst at Quilter Cheviot:
"GSK delivered a slight mixed picture in the third quarter, but overall the headline numbers look fine. Sales grew 5%, in line with expectations, while profit and earnings beat those expectations as a result of lower costs and higher royalty income. As new CEO Luke Miels approaches his first year in charge as the beginning of 2027, he is looking to get GSK’s pipeline into a better shape as he sets the business on a strategic overhaul.
"Business development activities have been stepped up, while research and development spend is expected to increase. GSK anticipates starting more Phase III clinical trials going forward, with 22 expected this year and 18 already started to date. While vaccines performance was slightly weaker than expected and general medicines better, there were positive signs on the speciality medicines front. Meanwhile, GSK’s rebuilding of its oncology pipeline appears to be beginning to pay off as sales climbed 23% in that division.
“With no major pipeline updates just now, Miels will be hoping next year becomes one where the restructuring of the business begins to show in trial results. GSK remains behind peers in the strength of its pipeline and looming patent expiries, and as such next year is looking like it will be an important one in the turnaround story of the business.”
