Quilter Cheviot is marking 25 years of its managed portfolio service (MPS) with the launch of a new short-term ‘liquidity’ portfolio and a broadening of its index-tracker MPS range.
Launching 30th October, the Liquidity MPS complements the existing range, giving advisers a dedicated solution for clients’ short-term capital requirements and planned withdrawals. It can be used as a standalone strategy or alongside the Building Blocks and Index+ portfolios, helping clients meet near-term needs without disrupting their long-term investment strategy.
The portfolio invests predominantly in a range of high-quality money market funds and has a portfolio management cost of 0.10%.
Quilter Cheviot has also redesigned its index-tracker portfolios with the addition of three new strategies and a renaming of the range from IDX to Index+ to more clearly reflect what the range does. The Index+ MPS now spans the same seven risk levels as the Building Blocks MPS and combine predominantly index-tracking funds with active alternatives accessed through the Building Block funds, strengthening diversification.
Quilter Cheviot actively manages the overall asset allocation of the Index+ portfolios, giving clients cost-effective, diversified portfolios that can adapt as the investment environment changes. The total cost of the on platform Index+ managed portfolios ranges from 0.28% to 0.37%.
The enhancements mark 25 years since Quilter Cheviot launched its MPS and five years since it introduced its Building Block structure. Launched in September 2001, Quilter Cheviot was one of the first discretionary fund managers to bring an MPS to market for advised clients, helping to shape the future of outsourced investment management. It extended the service to adviser platforms in 2011 and is now available on 17 platforms, as well as through its own custody service.
The Building Blocks structure comprises funds designed and actively managed by Quilter Cheviot exclusively for its MPS. Each Building Block provides specific geographic or asset-class exposure and invests in a combination of direct equities, bonds and external fund holdings.
Quilter Cheviot charges no fund management fee for the Building Block funds, giving clients the full benefit of the cost saving while managing conflicts of interest.
Michelle Andrews, managing director - distribution at Quilter Cheviot, said: “Over the past 25 years, advisers have navigated changing tax rules, new regulations, evolving technologies, shifting client needs and geopolitical turmoil. Throughout it all, experienced investment management and diversified portfolios have remained essential. The continued growth of managed portfolio services reflects that enduring need.
“This milestone is an opportunity to give advisers greater choice and practical innovations that can materially improve client outcomes. Choice matters in a highly personalised market. By introducing a liquidity strategy and an enhanced index range, we are helping advisers serve a broader range of clients without compromising asset allocation discipline or cost efficiency.”
Simon Doherty, head of managed portfolio services at Quilter Cheviot, added: “Advisers need investment solutions that deliver strong outcomes and demonstrate clear value for the costs and charges clients pay. The Liquidity MPS and Index+ range are designed to do exactly that, offering actively managed portfolios across risk profiles with distinct investment approaches and cost points.
“Our Building Block funds have strengthened our fully active MPS, and we are pleased to be utilising them across what is now a full suite of index-tracking strategies. The funds were designed to improve transparency and enable portfolio construction cost-effectively, and their performance over the past five years reinforces our confidence in the approach.”
