If you are covering the news that Laura Trott has taken on the role of pensions minister, please see the following comment from Jon Greer, head of retirement policy at Quilter:
"We once again welcome a new pension minister. Although rumours were rife that Guy Opperman was going to get the role back it has been revealed today that Laura Trott has taken on the role after Alex Burghart’s incredibly short tenure while serving under the Truss government.
"Trott comes from a communication background having worked at the PR firm Portland and was David Cameron’s head of strategic communication. She also helped co-author the Conservative’s 2015 manifesto in which the party committed to keeping the pensions triple lock.
"She will therefore be acutely aware of the difficult position she now finds herself during an incredibly high-profile time for pensions as the government searches for ways to shore up public finances. In the face of high inflation, the triple lock is once again on chopping board and could be scrapped at the Autumn Statement. She today in parliament refused to commit to keeping the triple lock in place, so pensioners across the country will be paying close attention when Hunt speaks next week.
"The pension industry can only hope that she stays in the role for longer than a few weeks unlike some of her predecessors. Pensions are for the long term and we need a long-term pension minister who understands the landscape in detail."
