If you are covering National Grid’s results this morning, please see the following comment from Tom Gilbey, equity research analyst at Quilter Cheviot:

"National Grid reported a very strong set of half-year numbers. They invested a record amount in the half-year, which drove stronger earnings. What was more pleasing was the upgrade to their 2025/26 targets which were due to macroeconomic factors and partly due to acceleration of investments required for the energy transition. Scale of investments for the wider market are huge, with Grid flagging that over five times the amount of new electricity transmission will need to be delivered in the next seven years than has been built in the past 30. This highlights how much investment is needed across the whole Network space and why Grid have a key role as enablers of the energy transition."
