  • Fergus Caheny to join as head of London and Louise Williams appointed finance director

Quilter Cheviot has announced the appointment of Fergus Caheny as head of London and Louise Williams as finance director, helping to position the business for its next phase of growth.

Caheny will join Quilter Cheviot in January 2027 from Evelyn Partners, where he has been a managing partner for the past four years, leading one of the firm’s most prominent investment management teams. He brings more than 30 years’ experience and will also join the Quilter Cheviot executive committee, reporting to CEO John Goddard.

Caheny will succeed Nigel Crawford, who has decided to retire in 2027 following a long career with Quilter Cheviot. Crawford has made a significant contribution to the business, including establishing its Belfast office and leading the London team for the past eight years.

Meanwhile, Williams will join Quilter Cheviot in November from Aberdeen Adviser, where she was chief financial officer. She rejoins the Quilter Group, having previously held senior finance positions within Quilter plc, and will also join Quilter Cheviot’s executive committee.

Chief financial & operating officer, Paul Barnacle, has decided to leave Quilter Cheviot later this year to explore new opportunities following 20 years with the business. He will remain with Quilter Cheviot for a transition period.

Quilter Cheviot is in the process of recruiting a new chief operating officer (COO) who will be critical in delivering operational excellence and leading the ongoing investment in client journeys, and enhancements that underpin the firm’s long-term ambitions.

The firm has also announced that Nick Holmes, managing director client service & oversight, will retire next summer after supporting the transition to the new structure. Nick has been with Quilter Cheviot since 2019 and has played an important role in overseeing the firm’s transformation programme and the evolution of its client-facing capabilities.

John Goddard, chief executive officer at Quilter Cheviot, said: “In my first year in this role, I've seen the strength of Quilter Cheviot and the opportunities ahead of us. These changes will ensure we have the right leadership structure, expertise and capacity to support our future growth and continue building on the strong foundations already in place.

“Louise knows Quilter extremely well and brings considerable financial leadership experience, while Fergus has an impressive track record in investment management and leading teams in the London market. I am delighted they are joining Quilter Cheviot and look forward to working closely with them.

“I would also like to thank Paul, Nick and Nigel for the enormous contribution each has made to Quilter Cheviot. They have given many years of service to the business and leave impressive legacies in their respective areas. We have planned carefully for these transitions and will continue to ensure a smooth handover as we put the new leadership structure in place.”
