If you are covering BAE Systems 2026 half year results, please find comments below from Matt Dorset, defence analyst at Quilter Cheviot:

"BAE Systems has once again demonstrated why it remains one of the standout names in the European defence sector. The company has delivered another beat-and-raise quarter, with sales, profits and cash generation all ahead of expectations, supported by strong demand across its core markets and continued increases in global defence spending.

"Importantly, this is not just a story of strong current demand. The company continues to replenish and expand its future revenue base through contract wins across a range of strategic programmes, from supplying Turkey with training to Eurofighter and the Global Combat Air Programme and missile defence production. With order intake remaining above revenue and the backlog standing at record levels, visibility over future growth remains particularly strong.

"The upgraded guidance reflects both the strength of execution and the structural tailwinds supporting the sector. While the shares trade at a premium to historic levels, we believe that is justified by the group's growth prospects, strong cash generation and exposure to what remains a multi-year expansion in global defence budgets. Today's results are further evidence that BAE's momentum shows little sign of slowing."
