Quilter Cheviot, the wealth manager, has appointed Tim Armitage into the newly created role of investment strategist.

As part of the role, Armitage will propose tactical asset allocation trades across asset classes to enhance client investment performance. He will also develop and maintain forecasting scorecards and models, and provide commentary on financial markets to clients, advisers and Quilter Cheviot’s investment managers.

Reporting into chief investment officer Caroline Simmons, Armitage will provide support to her with the overall investment process.

Armitage joins Quilter Cheviot from Legal & General Investment Management (LGIM), where he was a multi-asset strategist and fund manager. At LGIM, he was responsible for both strategic and tactical asset allocation across a wide range of long-only and target return funds. Prior to that, he was at BlackRock for a number of years within multi-asset investment risk.

The appointment follows Simmons joining Quilter Cheviot last year as chief investment officer. She oversees an award-winning team of over 20 equity, bond and collectives analysts, as well as some of Quilter Cheviot’s investment propositions.

Caroline Simmons, chief investment officer at Quilter Cheviot, said: “Tim has a huge amount of experience across various roles within the investment universe, from analyst to investment risk, and more recently as a fund manager. He is well-positioned to provide insight and ideas to our research teams, investment managers and proposition leads.

“There is a lot of noise in markets currently, so I am pleased to be able to build out my team at this juncture. We want to ensure client investment performance is as strong as possible, and we are excited to see what ideas Tim brings to the table.”

Tim Armitage, investment strategist at Quilter Cheviot, added: “Investment markets have been incredibly volatile lately, and it is vital that commentary and ideas are communicated effectively to ensure calm heads prevail. I am delighted to join Quilter Cheviot at this time and work closely with Caroline and our research teams to develop ideas and ensure positive client outcomes can be met, despite the market environment.”
