AMD reported a robust quarter, with revenue up 36% year-over-year, underscoring strong demand across multiple segments. While the stock saw a modest sell-off post-earnings, the fundamentals remain solid.
A key driver was the AI data centre rollout, where AMD is seeing growing demand for its CPUs alongside its GPU offering. The recent deal with OpenAI, announced last month, was a major highlight, serving as a strong validation of AMD’s long-term roadmap in the AI space.
In the PC segment, revenue surged 47%, with AMD continuing to take share from Intel. The gaming division also saw a notable recovery, buoyed by seasonal builds ahead of the holiday season for Xbox and PlayStation. AMD further strengthened its gaming footprint by signing a new deal with Microsoft for future Xbox platforms.
The industrial segment remained weak, but that is typical of this sector at present. Overall, AMD guided to 25% revenue growth for the next quarter. Margins didn’t accelerate as much as hoped, and the company confirmed no sales into China, due to ongoing export restrictions. AMD also highlighted its role in powering scientific supercomputers, reinforcing its position in high-performance computing.
Looking ahead, investors will be watching closely as AMD hosts its Capital Markets Day next Tuesday, where it’s expected to provide deeper insights into its market opportunities and strategic direction.
